Solar and Lunar Vinyasa styles differ in that classical, or “solar” vinyasa entails jumps, chatarangas and lots of upper body strength and weight-bearing postures. On the other hand, “lunar” vinyasa involves lateral movements of the hips and thus more emphasis on hip opening, less on arm strength.Lunar vinyasa is typically slower and more dance-like. In this class we will move back and forth and between the two styles, varying the content and intent. It will be extremely helpful if you have had some yoga experience before embarking on a flow style such as vinyasa.

Equipment Required

Bring your mat and a block or two. A firm blanket may also be useful. We may sometimes use a yoga strap or belt.
