Students will learn a variety of mindfulness techniques designed to increase attention, self-regulation, empathy, compassion and the ability to respond skillfully to challenging situations instead of reacting impulsively. Students are encouraged to practice the techniques regularly. Ongoing instruction and reflection opportunities create a strong foundation for lifelong practice. Each session begins with a guided meditation practice followed by a brief sharing of students’ experiences with the practice, and a mindful wrap-up & takeaway practice for the week. Mindful techniques contain different lessons, e.g. mindful listening, breathing, seeing, eating. Practice body awareness, mindful movements, mindfulness of emotions, naming thoughts & emotions. Practice kindness, gratitude, and generosity. The practice of Mindfulness, non-judgmental awareness of one’s experience in the present moment, helps students to become self-aware, manage and regulate their own emotions.
